I found this perfect GB 500 for sale in Germany, drove down and bought it...
enjoyed it for a few thousand miles.
A friend also wanted one...found another perfect bike for him in Germany...
On one of our mountain road trips, we stopped for a cigarette and both said: We need a bit more power....
I har read what Albert had done with his bike and called him...He agreed to put in a tuned Domi engine and promised 55-60 PS......
Trailered both bike down, collected them a few months later.....
I came roughly 50 km from Albert and stranded on the motorway...Parked the bike and called Albert to collect it and fix it..... My friend was not all happy with his bike either, but he came at least on his own wheels to Norway.
My friend had some problems with his bike and he did dot like to travel alone with it ...so when I should collect mine..Albert also had a look on his.....
OK we paid up and went for a GB 500 Rally in Denmark......100 km into Denmark..my bike stopped with seized engine..again...a record run of total max 300 km on that engine...
A friend should pick up a bike in Germany and I came along south...again...for picking up my bike in Denmark and deliver it to Albert....for the 3rd time....
Everything was stuck, so a new teardown was made....
We returned home and the following winter Albert came and delivered the bike at our home.
Due to I have others bikes, the GB was not moved about a lot...but on the first trip I came down some mountain curves and braked..the whole front fork was loose...all nuts was just mounted by hand force. I had handtools with me and took it easy..very easy.. home...I torqued the nuts up when I came home.
This tour must have been in 2004 or 2005 and the bike have been standing mostly since.
Last spring I took it out for a spin again..and lo-and-behold...it maked funny noices again..... well I knew for sure that this bike will never see the inside of Albert's shed again.
BTW: My friend never got his bike to run as it should, but since he had the original engine still, he put that in and sold it...It's still in some ones living room...
I January this year I came over a Africa Twin in Rally disquise for sale in Austria.... bought it and arranged transport to Hirtshals in Denmark where I should be with my GB so that the transport company could bring it to ABP. We swopped bikes and I was on my way back with the ferry to Norway...
Saturday morning I got a call from ABP...
Do You know that all engine mounting bolts where loose ????? NO...I did NOT !!!!!!
Have You ridden it like that ...YES..I DID...but not much...luckily ...
...and today I got this e-mail from ABP Racing:
Hello !
Sorry, my english is not so good.
We have to do this things not for more power.
The things we tell you are massive defect !
Your crankshaft-bearings, the oil-pump, the timing-chain, the piston, the cylinder-head ...
All these parts are in realy bad condition- you can self see it if you get these parts.
Nobody can use this parts again !
The cylinderhead ist defect, because it has a tear on the top and -this is the realy big problem -
the middle-bearing from the camshaft ( the cam runs heare only in the aluminium from the head )
is complete defect, because theres to low oil !
It can´t be repaired.
So you need all these parts new.
The biggest positions are :
Complete new bearnings for the engine and gearbox
New rod ( pressured on the crankshaft )
Oil-pump
Timing-chain
Cylinder-head
Piston
A new steel-bushing for the cylinder, because the
old bushing is bored now on 102mm !
Complete work ( buil out and built in, repair the engine
Repair the electric
Some small things....
Only the parts we need for the engine are around 1500-2000 Euro.
We need around 20 hours for complete repair, one hour is 50 Euro.
We repair the engine with a 100% guarantee, only with original new Honda-parts.
With a new, worked cylinder-head, a camshaft, the Mikuni-flat-carburator ( you have ),
the supertrapp you get a powerfull engine with a big torque in lower turns !
Please tell us as if the repair is ok for you.
But please understand, the we cant make a compromise by the parts we need, we only repair
with guarantee, theres no compromise possible.
